Dr. Melina Ovanessian

Dr. Melina Ovanessian received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). As a registered clinical psychologist, she provides assessment and treatment for adults with a range of concerns (anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger, relationship challenges, and other life stressors). She also has extensive experience assessing and treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including with first responders and correctional services.

Dr. Ovanessian’s treatment approaches include cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive processing therapy (CPT for PTSD), and mindfulness-based interventions. Dr. Ovanessian has co-facilitated multiple psychotherapy groups, including CBT groups for depression, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, OCD, chronic pain, as well as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) groups and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCT) groups for various concerns.  

Dr. Ovanessian has trained in leading clinical settings, including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH’s) Mood and Anxiety Ambulatory Services, and Work, Stress and Health Program, Frederick W. Thompson Anxiety Disorders Centre’s intensive program for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, and St. Michael’s Hospital.

Dr. Ovanessian also has a strong commitment to clinically-relevant research. She is particularly interested in optimizing treatment techniques and their implications for clinical outcomes, prevention and intervention. Her work has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and she has published and presented on clinically relevant topics (e.g., optimizing treatment techniques for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, psychometric evaluation of anxiety measures, and various other worry-associated processes).Dr. Ovanessian truly cares for the well-being of her clients and works hard to ensure they are provided the best possible care. Her approach is collaborative, compassionate, and nonjudgmental, supporting clients from all walks of life in achieving their goals.
